Physics Games Online: Stack, Balance, Draw and Smash

Updated

Physics games online are games where objects fall, tip, roll and break by simulated rules instead of scripted animation, and your job is to work with that: stack blocks, balance a load, draw a path or knock a tower down. The software that does the simulating is a physics engine, which Wikipedia describes as software providing an approximate simulation of certain physical systems, used mainly in video games, in real time. Below are the kinds, with games from the catalog; ragdoll games and rope puzzles have their own guides.

Stack and balance

These games reward a steady hand: the physics decides what stays up.

  • Tower Blocks Deluxe 3D has you drop each block onto the tower below and watch the skyscraper rise. One bad move and it can come crashing down, and the levels get harder as you go. You play with a mouse click or a tap.
  • Stack Tide is a physics-based stacking game. You drop and rotate drifting shapes to build the tallest tower you can, and missed pieces fall into the water while the sea rises faster. A and D or the arrow keys move, Q and E rotate, Space drops.
  • Warehouse Wobble 3D puts a forklift under wobbly loads: stacks of boxes, TVs, barrels, a safe and a piano. Brake too hard and the stack topples; take a corner too fast and the cargo flies. It has 20 levels across four warehouses and saves automatically.
  • Watermelon Stack 3D is a physics-based fruit merging game. You rotate around the bowl, aim and throw each fruit into the stack, and two fruits of the same type make a bigger one, across 11 fruit types. A fruit that falls out of the bowl and touches the table ends the game.
  • Beach Ball is a 3D physics and balancing game. You drag a big beach ball toward the hole inside the lifebuoy and keep it out of the water, or you lose the round.

Drop, roll and bounce

Here gravity does the moving, and you set the stage.

  • Push Tiny Ball is a physics puzzle: rotate the screen to get the ball to the exit without touching the spikes or falling. It has 15 levels and plays with the arrow keys, the mouse or touch.
  • Gravix asks you to push a balloon along paths to the end of a level, 20 levels in all, using the balls that appear when you click around it.
  • Cannon Strike is about filling buckets with balls. You shoot, and you move objects with your finger to change the direction of the balls.
  • Spatial Inverse: Gravity Puzzle Adventure lets you manipulate gravity to guide glowing marbles to their goals across 15 levels in 3 sci-fi worlds. You place gadgets such as blocks, bounce pads and portals on a grid, then press Play and watch gravity do the rest.

Draw a line and let physics decide

You draw first and the physics runs afterwards, so the thinking happens before the line.

  • Rubber Doodle turns every line you draw into a rubber band. You stretch it and let it snap to catch the ball, fling it like a slingshot or bounce it off walls, and guide it into the cup across 75 hand-drawn stages.
  • Street Physics is a basketball puzzle. You draw the ball's path with red, blue and yellow spray cans and press the button that activates gravity; if the path is right, the ball ends up in the basket. It has 24 levels.
  • Happy Bucket Challenge asks you to draw a line that fills the glass with liquid. Some levels look easy, but getting the 3 stars is harder. You hold the left mouse button to draw.
  • Draw Bridge Puzzle has you draw paths for a car to cross obstacles and reach its destination.

More car-and-road puzzles of this kind are in physics driving and road-drawing puzzles.

Smash, fling and sandbox

  • Big Smash gives you a cannon and tennis balls to knock down towers of cubes made of stone, wood, ice, jelly and cardboard. Each cube falls differently, and the aim is to find the cube the structure depends on. It has 69 towers.
  • Voxel Crusher is a pixel destruction game: you smash, crush and demolish blocks with laser guns, giant gears and energy bombs, and upgrade your power, speed and weapons.
  • Kick the Zombie: Ragdoll Sandbox is a ragdoll physics toy in a moonlit graveyard. You drag and fling Gus the zombie, or kick, smack, zap and freeze him with the tools in the toolbar.
  • Physics Sandbox lets you play around with materials: powder and sand, liquids, lava, solids that can be split, and gas. Left click draws and right click erases.

Vehicles, ragdolls and ropes

Hilltop Hustle is a bouncy physics driving game. You balance a jeep over crests, collect fuel cans and chain flips, big air and wheelies into a stunt multiplier, but you never land on your head.

Two kinds of physics games have their own guides: ragdoll physics games, where a floppy body tumbles through traps and crashes, and rope-cutting physics puzzles.

Habits for physics games

  1. Watch before you adjust. In Spatial Inverse you place gadgets, press Play and watch; R resets the level and F fast-forwards.
  2. Go gently. In Warehouse Wobble 3D, braking too hard topples the stack and a fast corner sends the cargo flying.
  3. Look for the piece everything leans on. Big Smash says you win by finding the cube that is critical to the structure.
  4. Use undo and restart. Rubber Doodle has Z for undo, R for restart and a light bulb for hints, so a failed band costs little.

Physics games FAQ

What are physics games?

Games where the rules of motion do the work: gravity pulls, objects bump and tip, and you plan around it.

Are there physics sandbox games online?

Physics Sandbox lets you play with sand, liquids, lava and gas, drawing with the left button and erasing with the right. Kick the Zombie: Ragdoll Sandbox is a ragdoll toy with tools for kicking, smacking, zapping and freezing.

Which physics games are about balance?

Warehouse Wobble 3D asks you to balance wobbly loads on a forklift, Beach Ball to keep a ball out of the water, and Tower Blocks Deluxe 3D and Stack Tide to stack blocks without a collapse.

Can you play physics games on a phone?

The site works in the browser of a phone, a tablet and a computer. Stack Tide lists tap and drag for mobile, Big Smash lets you tap and drag on a phone or tablet, and Warehouse Wobble 3D has an on-screen stick and buttons.
