Games Like Breakout: Brick Breaker Games to Play Online
Updated
Games like Breakout are brick breakers: you keep a ball in play and use it to knock out a wall of bricks. Breakout is a 1976 arcade game released by Atari, in which you move a paddle along the bottom of the screen. The games below are original brick breakers by independent studios, some with a paddle and some where you aim and shoot.
How Breakout plays
In Breakout you slide a paddle along the bottom of the screen. A ball bounces off the walls, the bricks and your paddle, and each brick it hits disappears. If the ball gets past your paddle you lose it, and you clear the screen when every brick is gone.
Atari made it as a one-player game inspired by Pong. That makes the skill control: getting under the ball and choosing the angle it leaves your paddle at. Newer brick breakers add power-ups, levels and bosses. This table shows where the games below match.
| What you do in Breakout | Games that ask the same |
|---|---|
| Move a paddle to keep the ball in play | The Brick, NovaBrick Rush, Galaxy Brick Breaker |
| Clear every brick to finish the level | The Brick, NovaBrick Rush, Bricks Breaker |
| Play with a limited number of chances | The Brick, NovaBrick Rush, Break Bricks 2 Player |
| Collect power-ups | The Brick, NovaBrick Rush, Brick Breaker Ball |
Brick breakers with a paddle
These keep the paddle, the ball and the wall.
- The Brick has you launch the ball, bounce it off your paddle and destroy every brick on the screen. Grab falling power-ups and extra lives, and beat the clock. Missed catches cost you lives, and you play with the mouse.
- NovaBrick Rush is a space-themed brick breaker with different brick types and power-ups such as Extra Life, Bottom Shield, Expand Paddle, Shrink Paddle, Slow Ball and Multi-Ball. Use A and D or the arrow keys, or touch and drag the paddle, and press Space or tap to launch the ball.
- Galaxy Brick Breaker sends space paddles and energy balls through waves of glowing bricks. You meet asteroid fields, alien brick formations and power-ups, and you can upgrade your paddle and use laser shots. It plays with the mouse.
- Brick Breaker Ball is a classic, high-paced brick smasher. Grab power-ups and extra lives before they fall and try to set a new high score.
- Many Bricks Breaker offers two modes, Classic and Many Bricks, with 100 levels in each. You break bricks and collect boosters.

Brick breakers where you aim and shoot
There is no paddle here. You aim, launch balls and break bricks.
- Brick Breaker Gala has you launch balls and demolish colorful brick walls across many levels. Earn stars with high scores, collect coins and spend them on upgrades for your balls, power-ups and lives. Use the mouse or a tap to set the direction of your shot.
- Bricks Breaker asks you to touch and shoot balls until every brick is gone. Find the aim angle that breaks the most bricks, because bricks are destroyed when their score reaches 0, and break them before they hit the bottom of the screen. It has over 3,000 levels.
- Cartoon Bricks Vip plays the same way with one finger: hold the screen and move to aim, and never let the bricks reach the bottom. It has thousands of stages and an endless mode.
- BlockBreaker has you shoot small balls at the bricks. Hitting other balls increases the number you shoot each time, and when your energy bar is full you can clear a whole row of bricks.
- Brick Breaker Neon gives a classic idea a neon style, with 200 different levels. It takes touch and mouse controls.

If you like aiming shots, bubble shooter tips covers a close cousin, and ball games has more games built around a bouncing ball.
Brick breakers with a twist
- Break Bricks 2 Player is a 3D brick breaker for one or two players. In the single-player game you get three chances, and in the two-player game you fight an opponent over five rounds. Bonuses add balls or refill your health bar. Use the arrow keys, or A and D for the first player in the two-player game.
- Bricks of Wrath makes the bricks fight back. Fire shots at the advancing wall of bricks, dodge the fire they return and time your shots to outlast them.
- Pinball: Cube Crusher is part pinball, part demolition. Use the flippers to launch balls and smash cubes, and each shattered cube releases more balls. Hold the left mouse button to raise the flippers, or touch the screen on a phone.
Tips for brick breakers
- Get under the ball early. Move toward where it will land, not where it is now.
- Test your paddle. Hit the ball with the middle and then with the edge, and watch how the angle changes.
- Open a gap along one side. If the ball slips behind a wall of bricks, it can break many bricks without any help from you.
- Read the power-up before you catch it. NovaBrick Rush has both an Expand Paddle and a Shrink Paddle power-up, so check what is falling.
- In aim-and-shoot games, aim at the lowest bricks first. In Bricks Breaker and Cartoon Bricks Vip, the game ends when bricks reach the bottom.
