Ironwake adds number keys 1 to 4 to switch weapons, Space to dash and G to open the garage. In Tanks for the Nation you pinch with two fingers to zoom on a phone.
Ricochets and armor
Some tank games simulate how shells behave, and that changes how you aim.
- Tanks for the Nation is a 2D World War II battle with four classes: heavy, medium and light tanks plus tank destroyers, each with its own armor, speed, fire rate and penetration. Shells ricochet, armor has weak spots with the rear the most vulnerable, and wrecked tanks block your line of fire.
- Tank Pixel is a one-button duel where bullets bounce off the walls. You can fool your friend with a shot that comes in off a wall. The first to five points wins, and the map changes every round.
So in Tanks for the Nation it pays to get behind a tank rather than trade shots head-on, and in Tank Pixel to use the walls to reach a tank you cannot hit directly.
Cover: walls, buildings and sandbags
Cover is the cheapest armor there is.
- Ironwake: Tank Combat has 10 missions where you use buildings as cover, track enemies on the minimap, and spend salvage on armor, firepower and mobility. Two bosses wait, including the three-phase Dreadnought.
- Steel Advance gives you an M4 Sherman and sandbags you push into place to block enemy shells. Careful: box yourself in with sandbags and the mission is over, and you have to refresh the page to try again.
- Tank Attack tells you to hide behind walls and watch your health while you switch between a gun, a machine gun and a napalm bomb.
- Tank Sniper 3D is about shooting from behind cover and staying hidden until the surprise shot.
Duels on one keyboard
Two players share the keyboard: one on WASD, the other on the arrow keys, each with a fire key.
- TankHit fights in 3D mazes and arenas. Each magazine holds 5 shells, and the first to 5 hits wins.
- Tank Rumble has split screen, Free and Maze maps, Survival and Deathmatch modes, and lets two friends team up against the computer.
- Mega Tank Wars Arena has Classic, Capture the Flag and a 2-minute Death Match for the highest score.
- Tank Stormy offers a 2 Player mode with maze walls to hide behind and a Survival mode against the computer.
- Tank Struggle lets you set the length of the match from 1 to 99.

Defend the base
In base-defense tank games you lose when your base falls, even if your tank is fine.

- Aim for the rear. Tanks for the Nation makes the back the most vulnerable armor.
- Leave yourself a way out. Steel Advance ends the mission if your own sandbags trap you.
- Watch the base, not only the enemy. In Super Tank Battle a lost base ends the game.
