Games Like Vampire Survivors: Auto-Attack Survival Games

Updated

Games like Vampire Survivors are survival games where your weapons attack on their own: you move, enemies arrive in waves, and every level-up lets you pick an upgrade. Vampire Survivors is a roguelike by poncle that began in early access in December 2021 and was fully released in October 2022. The games below are original browser games by independent studios built on the same loop.

How Vampire Survivors plays

In Vampire Survivors the player's weapons attack automatically, so your job is to move and to choose well. Waves of enemies keep coming, and defeating them earns experience. Each level-up gives you a choice of three or four weapons and power-ups, the power-ups being named passives.

A run has a soft time limit of 15, 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the stage, and after that a final enemy called The Reaper appears and another follows every minute.

That makes three asks: weapons that fire on their own, a choice at every level-up and a crowd that keeps growing. This table shows where the games below ask for the same.

What you do in Vampire SurvivorsGames that ask the same
Move while weapons attack on their ownMonster Haul, Scrap Arms Neo, Halloween Survivor
Pick one upgrade at each level-upStellar Bastion, Toxic Arena: Biological Threat, DungeonsQuest

Survive bigger waves and bossesLast Shift, Mech Core: Survivor, Slime Survivors

Weapons that fire on their own

These are the closest: you steer, and the weapons do the rest.

  • Monster Haul is a pixel-art survival brawler. Your weapons fire by themselves, and you draft from more than 60 of them, from blasters and boomerangs to chain lightning, flamethrowers, saw blades and meteor strikes. Endless waves of slimes, bats, ghosts and goblins come at you across 3 randomly chosen worlds, with elites and bosses deeper in. WASD or the arrows move, the mouse aims, and keys 1, 2 and 3 pick upgrades. On a phone you tap a card.
  • Scrap Arms Neo is a pixel-art action roguelite. Every weapon you pick up joins your stack and attacks automatically until it breaks and explodes. You swap weapons on the fly, choose an upgrade at every level-up and survive waves of scrap monsters and bosses. It has 60 weapons, 6 characters and 9 stages.
  • Halloween Survivor circles swords around your character, and they attack nearby enemies automatically. Collect more swords to hit harder, grab shields and other upgrades, and fight through the waves and bosses. A virtual joystick moves you.
  • Stellar Bastion is an endless wave-survival shooter where your rifle auto-fires at the nearest bug, so every decision is where you stand. Waves escalate every 13 seconds, and every fifth wave a Hive King speeds up the swarm. Each level-up offers a choice of one of three perk cards from 22 upgrades, without pausing the fight.
  • Abyssborn is a survivor roguelike where you auto-fire arrows at the swarming dead, and your only job is to keep moving. Every level-up offers a new choice: homing arrows, 360-degree barrages, explosive shots, piercing, knockback or critical hits.

Level-ups, upgrades and builds

In these the upgrade choice carries the run.

  • Toxic Arena: Biological Threat calls itself an action-roguelike survivors game. You are trapped on an arena with endless hordes of mutants, and each level offers unique upgrades: more damage, a higher fire rate, or abilities like ricochet and armor penetration. WASD or the arrows move.
  • DungeonsQuest is a 3D action roguelite. You survive waves of monsters, collect XP gems, level up and choose powerful upgrades, combining magical abilities and weapons into a different build each run. Elite monsters, mini-bosses and a final boss wait in the dungeon. WASD moves, and the mouse picks upgrades.
  • Last Shift is a 3D game seen from above, with five workers as heroes: the Programmer fires homing code bolts, the Soldier a rapid-fire rifle, and the Garbage Collector throws heavy piercing trash bags. Stand still and your hero attacks automatically, and every level-up offers an ability such as Twin Shot, Ricochet or Chain Lightning. It has 5 chapters of 10 rooms with a boss at the end of each, plus modes like Survival, Boss Rush and an endless Skyscraper.
  • Stickman Legion gives you a Commander who shoots automatically. You level up, pick upgrades and evolve your gun into a minigun, railgun or rocket launcher, and you call in drones, turrets and airstrikes. It has 10 stages on 2 islands and permanent upgrades between runs. WASD or the arrows move, and you click an upgrade to take it.
  • Slime Survivors is a simplified roguelite: endless waves of slugs, skeletons, goblins and golems, a higher level and stronger stats as you win, achievements, and artifacts dropped by bosses. Arrows move on a computer and on-screen buttons on a phone.

Twists on the loop

  • Mech Core: Survivor puts you in an armored Mech against alien swarms. Collect Nanites to level up into Rapid Lasers, Homing Missiles or EMP Shockwaves. WASD or the arrows move, the mouse aims, and auto-fire is on by default.
  • Fruit Survivor is a 3D cartoon game in which a gardener fights fruit monsters with different weapons. Its description suggests picking the blender first and maxing it out. You hold and drag to move, and tap buttons to pick upgrades.
  • Iron Smash swaps automatic weapons for a heavy iron flail that you swing with the mouse through waves of geometric enemies. Every enemy drops XP, and each level-up offers random upgrades: a bigger ball, a longer chain or more speed.

Crafting, base building and other kinds of survival are in survival games online.

Habits for auto-attack survival

  1. Keep moving. Abyssborn calls moving your only job, and in Stellar Bastion every decision is positioning.
  2. Pick upgrades that stack. Abyssborn lets you pile homing arrows, barrages, piercing and critical hits into one build.
  3. Know when to stand still. In Last Shift your hero attacks automatically when you stand still.
  4. Expect a boss. Stellar Bastion sends a Hive King every fifth wave, and Last Shift ends each chapter with one.
  5. Watch your weapon stack. In Scrap Arms Neo a weapon attacks until it breaks and explodes, so you swap and drop weapons as you go.
