Games Like Bloxorz: Block-Rolling Puzzle Games to Play
Updated
Games like Bloxorz are puzzle games where you roll a block across a grid of tiles, plan each move ahead and try not to fall off the edge. Bloxorz is a free Flash puzzle game in which you steer a block into a square hole at the end of every stage. The games below are original titles by independent studios: most roll a block or a cube, some roll a ball, and one does it in real time.
How Bloxorz plays
In Bloxorz you move a long block across a grid of tiles with the arrow keys. Each press tips the block over one edge, so it either stands on its end or lies on its side, and the tiles it covers change with every move.
If the block goes over the edge, the level restarts. You win a stage by dropping the block into the square hole at the end, and some tiles make that harder. Orange tiles give way when the block stands on its end on them. Switches open and close bridges, and the hard ones, marked with an X, only work when the block stands on its end. Another kind of switch teleports the block and splits it into two smaller blocks.
The difficulty is in planning, not in speed: you read the tiles, count the moves and try again. This table shows where the games below ask for the same.
| What you do in Bloxorz | Games that ask the same |
|---|---|
| Roll a block over the edges of the tiles | Box Roller, Rolling Cubes: 3D Puzzle, Rolling Blocks |
| Reach the goal: a hole, a key or a marked point | Box Roller, Roll Ball: Hole Puzzle, Jelly Cube Rolling |
| Stay on the tiles or fall off | Box Roller, Roll or Fall |
| Plan the route before you press a key | Twist And Roll, Roll The Block, Rolling Cubes: 3D Puzzle |
Closest to Bloxorz: roll a block or a cube
These keep the grid, the rolling and the goal at the end.
- Box Roller is the closest match. You control a wooden box rolling through terrain to land precisely in the target hole. Each level asks you to work out the direction, time your moves and avoid falling off course. Move with W, A, S, D or the arrow keys.
- Rolling Cubes: 3D Puzzle has you control a cube across tricky grids and past mechanical hazards to reach a gold key and open the next level. You can swipe to roll the cube, or tap on-screen arrow buttons.
- Jelly Cube Rolling asks you to take cubes to designated points over a series of levels. It has an odd rule: a cube needs a free space of one cube between it and the other cube before it can move. Use W, A, S, D or the arrow keys.
- Roll The Block is a folding-block puzzle. You unfold your blocks to fill the space and complete each challenge, and you play with the mouse or a tap.
- Rolling Blocks turns the box into a brush. You choose a colored square and turn the box over and over on a white canvas until the pattern the task shows is complete.

Roll a ball or a dice to the goal
These swap the block for a ball or a dice and keep the rolling and the hazards.
- Roll Ball: Hole Puzzle has you guide a ball across floating platforms in the sky and roll it into the hole to finish each level. Levels add sliding walls, spinning bars, bombs, narrow bridges, ice, spring pads, wind, crumbling floors and buttons that open gates. Its portrait mode works on mobile and desktop, and on desktop you use WASD or the arrow keys.
- WOBBLE IT is a 3D rolling-ball puzzle platformer. The ball sticks to every side of a block, so walls become floors as you roll over an edge. Collect every key to open the exit before the hourglass runs out, and avoid spikes, crumbling tiles and moving blocks. It has 150 levels in 10 worlds. W or Up rolls the ball, A and D or Left and Right turn it, and R restarts the level.
- Twist And Roll has you rotate the terrain and roll balls to the correct destination. You work out the rotation direction, time your moves and get past obstacles, all with the mouse.
- Roll or Fall turns the fear of falling into a timing game. Your dice rolls diagonally along tiles with lava, freezing blocks and hollow tiles that can send it falling. Tap to move, tap again to switch direction, stay on the path and collect coins for new dice.
More puzzles that ask you to plan ahead are on the puzzle games and brain games pages. Games like Sokoban covers push-the-crate puzzles, and the puzzle games guide lists more kinds.
Habits for rolling puzzles
- Find the goal first, then work backwards from it. The last move is usually the clearest one.
- Check which tiles the block will cover after a move, not before it.
- Change one thing at a time. If a route fails, note where, and keep the part that worked.
- Restart early. In WOBBLE IT the R key restarts a level, so a bad start costs one key press.
- Step away from a level that has you stuck and look at the whole board again.
