Puzzle Games Online: Sort, Path, Sliding and Logic Puzzles
Updated
Puzzle games online give you a fixed problem and ask you to find the moves that solve it: pour colors until each bottle holds one, draw a path that fills a grid, slide cars to free one of them, or reveal a picture from number clues. Below are the main kinds, the rule behind each and games from the puzzle games category.
Kinds of puzzle games
| Kind | The rule | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Sort puzzles | Move pieces until each container holds one color | Magic Water Sort: Color Puzzle |
| Path and pipe puzzles | Draw or turn pieces to connect points and fill the board | Ziply |
| Sliding block puzzles | Slide pieces along their lanes to free one piece | traffic escapee |
| Physics puzzles | Draw, tap or pull, then let gravity finish the move | Bump the Balls |
| Picture logic | Fill a grid from number clues to reveal an image | Nonogram - Picture Cross |
Some kinds have guides of their own: block puzzle tips, how to play 2048, sudoku rules and tips and online jigsaw puzzle tips. This guide covers the rest.
Sort puzzles: one color per container
Water sort has one rule, and water sort solve puzzles states it plainly: you can pour the top liquid only when the target bottle has space and its top color is the same, or the target bottle is empty. The level ends when every bottle holds a single color.
- Magic Water Sort: Color Puzzle works the same way: tap one bottle, then another to pour, across hundreds of levels.
- Ball Sort 2D moves one colored ball at a time from bottle to bottle until each bottle is one color.
- Hexa Color Sort sorts hexagon blocks so that matching colors end up together.
- Nuts Color Sorting Game does the same with colored nuts and bolts.
- Tidydeck: Sort Puzzle is gentler: drag each object card onto its matching category deck. Its description calls it a calm, no-fail puzzle.

Sorting habits:
- Treat an empty bottle as your most valuable space. Fill it only with a color you can finish soon.
- Work on the color that is closest to complete first.
- Look two or three pours ahead before the first one. One careless pour can bury a color under three others.
Path and pipe puzzles
Path puzzles ask you to connect points so that the line, or the pipe, covers the whole board.
- Ziply connects numbers in order (1, 2, 3 and so on) by drawing pipes, avoids the dark wall blocks and must fill every empty tile. It has 1,500 levels on 5x5, 6x6 and 8x8 grids, plus a Time Rush mode.
- Fill Line: one line puzzle game starts at a marked block and fills every other block with one unbroken line. You cannot cross the line or visit a block twice. Grids start at 4x4, and there is no time pressure.
- Flow Mania connects pairs of same-colored dots with pipe, covers the whole board and never lets two pipes cross, over 3 sets of 25 levels.
- Neon Circuit spins pipe segments 90° with each tap to link a power source to every terminal, from 4×4 grids to 8×8 networks with up to five terminals. Solve a level in fewer moves than par for three stars.
- Reds Winding Way gives you a shelf of road tiles to place and turn so that Red reaches Grandma's door, which opens only from the side its arrow points at. Later levels need two paths that never cross.
- Pipe Out Game rotates and arranges pipe pieces so the water flows from the start to the destination.
A habit for fill-the-board puzzles: find the squares with only one free neighbor first. The line has to pass through them in one way, and that often decides the rest of the route.
Sliding block puzzles
The classic is Klotski. Wikipedia's article on Klotski describes blocks of different sizes in a box, usually 4×5, where one special block must reach a set exit. You may only slide blocks horizontally or vertically, never lift them out.
- traffic escapee is that idea with cars: drag each car along its lane to clear a way for the red car to the exit on the right. It has 124 levels across 12 worlds and a new Daily Challenge every day.
- Animal Klotski slides animal-shaped blocks so the pink rabbit can escape.
- UNRAVEL gives every block an arrow. Tap a block and it slides that way until it leaves the board or hits another piece. Tap them in the wrong order and the board locks, though each of its 100 levels is verified solvable.
- Arrow Jam works in a similar way: a tapped arrow flies off the board, but a blocked move costs you an attempt.
- Car Parking Order asks for the right sequence to move every car out of a crowded lot.

NEWStart from the goal and work backwards: ask what is blocking the exit, then what is blocking that piece. Open Rings rewards the same thinking with rings, sliding bars and locks that open once other pieces are gone.
Physics puzzles
In physics puzzles you set things up, then gravity plays the move out.
- Bump the Balls has you draw a line, after which the balls fall and must meet. It has 100 levels and a hint button.
- Bridge Rush – Draw Bridge Puzzle Game draws a bridge with limited ink, then launches a car across it. The aim is the finish with minimum ink, over 50 levels with up to three stars each.
- JAIL DROP 3D removes a block with each tap. The prisoner has to land on the grass in one piece, so the order matters, and one tap resets the level.
- Coin Drop 3D knocks away planks and crates so a coin rolls into a bucket, over 24 levels.
- Clever Crow raises the water in a jar by tossing objects in: big stones do not fit a narrow neck, ice floats and melts, cork barely helps and a sponge soaks the water up.
- Hero Rescue: Gold Glory pulls pins in the right order to guide a hero past lava traps and enemies, collecting gold on the way.

Picture logic: nonograms
A nonogram is a grid with numbers along each row and column. Wikipedia's nonogram article explains that each number is a run of filled squares in that line, in order, with at least one blank square between runs. A clue of 4 8 3 means runs of four, eight and three.
Nonogram - Picture Cross follows those rules: color the squares the clues ask for, mark the ones that stay empty, and a pixel picture appears. Start with the longest clues. In a row of 10 with a clue of 8, the run covers squares 1 to 8 if pushed left and 3 to 10 if pushed right, so squares 3 to 8 are filled either way. Another logic grid, with mines instead of pictures, is in how to play Minesweeper.
Puzzle games FAQ
What kinds of puzzle games are there?
The main ones are sort puzzles, path and pipe puzzles, sliding block puzzles, physics puzzles and picture logic such as nonograms, plus blocks, numbers, sudoku and jigsaws. The table at the top says which rule each kind follows.
Are there puzzle games without a timer?
Yes. Reds Winding Way says it has no timer, ever, Fill Line has no time pressure, Arrow Jam has no timer, and Tidydeck is built to be no-fail.
Can you play puzzle games with friends?
Most are for one player. INCOWORD, a word guessing game, lets you join a multiplayer room and race friends in real time, and Mischievous Pairs has a local two-player mode for memory pairs.
Do puzzle games work on a phone?
Most of them use taps and drags. Ziply draws pipes with a swipe, traffic escapee moves cars with a drag and Magic Water Sort pours with two taps. The site works in the browser of a phone, a tablet and a computer.
The puzzle games category has many more boards to clear when these run out.
