Kingdom games online give you a castle or a realm to look after, and they usually ask for one of three jobs: build the town, defend the castle, or lead an army against a rival. Below are the games for each job, with the controls and numbers their own descriptions give.

Build a town or realm
Here the castle grows from nothing, and what you gather decides how strong it gets.
- Citadel: Fortress Defense is a first-person medieval game: each day you build your town, then a raid comes. You place walls, gates, houses, farms, sawmills, quarries, towers, barracks, a market and a mage tower, and you hire knights, archers and mages. A boss arrives every fifth day, and if the town hall falls, the game is over. WASD moves you and B opens build mode.
- Wars Island Management has you forge an army from scratch: build and train troops, fortify defenses, manage resources, develop new technologies and attack rival armies. It plays with the mouse or a tap.
- Clearfell: Forest Outpost starts with one tent in a forest clearing. You gather wood, stone, gold and iron, build sawmills, mines, walls, turrets and mortars, and rescue settlers to put them to work. Goblins raid your base every other night.
- Idle Cave Story runs a caveman village: assign workers, hire villagers with different roles, upgrade buildings and send warriors into caves to bring back loot. The village can also progress on its own.
- Village Builder game grows a settlement from the ground up. Hover over a tile to see the points a building would score there, and note that some buildings need certain neighbors.
Defend the castle
In these games the castle is the one thing you cannot lose. Placement and upgrade habits for towers are in tower defense tips.
- Castle Defender Saga is a battle simulation: defeat the enemy base before it beats you. Upgrade your tower, add extra archers, use buffs and send out your army to counter the enemy.
- Castle Crusade puts you in control of a heroic archer against skeleton soldiers, flying dragons and other airborne threats. Upgrades include fire arrows, bombs and speed, and you click or tap to aim.
- Castle Defense lets you play the wizard Severidric or the princess Gendra against orcs, trolls and bats. Coins buy magical staffs, fireballs and poison.
- Kingdom Tower Defense hands you the magic king and his skills. Collect money to upgrade weapons before the final boss reaches the castle. You point and shoot with the mouse, or touch the screen to aim.
- Save The Kingdom has 50 levels. Upgrade your 4 general skills and your castles, and drag a castle to the spot where you want it.
- Tower Defense Kingdoms asks you to build and upgrade towers so that invaders never reach your castle, across dozens of levels. You tap to play.
Lead knights and cannons against a rival
Now the other castle is the target, and you spend your money on troops or cannons.
- Castle Wars: Knights vs Orcs asks you to upgrade your knights, fight the horde and destroy its castle. Orcs come wave by wave, so buy more knights and arrange them on the line. Select a knight, then click the field to place it.
- Battle Of Heros has you marshal resources to summon units, and coins from defeated foes strengthen your base and bring in mightier warriors. There is a limit on active units, and both bases heal themselves, so the battle lasts until one falls.
- Kingdom Castle Wars pits two kingdoms against each other. They dig for metals, buy war cannons from a street vendor and fire at each other's castles. It is tagged as a two-player game.
- Red and Blue Castlewars is a duel with a friend: throw cannonballs and destroy their castle, and the first castle to crumble wins. Red moves with WASD and blue with the arrow keys.
- Castel Wars: Middle Ages brings cannons, fire arrows, swords and armor, plus a wing bonus that lets you descend slowly. It has two game modes and plays with one or two players.

Habits that hold a realm
- Gather before you fortify. Citadel and Clearfell both have you collect wood, stone and gold before you raise walls and towers.
- Expect each wave to be harder. In Citadel every raid is stronger than the last, and a boss comes every fifth day.
- Spend on upgrades that last. Save The Kingdom upgrades skills and castles, and Castle Defender Saga upgrades the tower and adds archers.
- Upgrade before the boss. Kingdom Tower Defense asks you to collect money for weapons and power-ups before the final boss reaches the castle.
- In a two-player duel, check the keys before you start. Red and Blue Castlewars gives red WASD and blue the arrow keys.
