Single Player Games Online: Puzzles, Platformers, Strategy

Updated

Single player games online are games built for one person: you work through levels, solve puzzles or run a town on your own, with nobody else to wait for. The games below are sorted into puzzles, platformers, adventure and strategy, and each is played alone, with a single set of controls.

How to tell a game is single player

  • Read the description for single-player, one-player or 1 player. Ants Clear All, Hedge maze, Paper Ball Adventure Go and Hot Barrel Cats all say so.
  • Check the instructions: one set of controls, not Player 1 and Player 2.
  • A game that offers both a 1 and a 2 player mode also works alone, but its menu decides, so look before you start.

Puzzles

  • Ants Clear All : Color Block Puzzle: a single-player puzzle about matching colors and planning your moves. Click a box in the front row to send out an ant team, which collects the reachable blocks of its own color. Slots are limited, so the order matters.
  • Screw Nuts Snap Puzzle: a puzzle about matching screws and choosing the right order. Remove accessible screws from layered glass shapes and collect them in boxes of the same color. Each box holds three screws, and spare slots give you room to plan. Progress is saved in the current browser.
  • Hedge maze: a one-player game where you guide a ball to the blue square to finish each level. Play with the on-screen joystick or the arrow keys.
  • Save My Human: play a hero cat and move tile by tile through puzzles and dangerous paths to rescue your human. It has 50 levels and a short Story Mode, and you play with the keyboard or the on-screen arrows.
  • Push Tiny Ball: a physics puzzle with 15 levels. Rotate the screen to get the ball to the exit without touching the spikes or falling down.
  • Solitaire World: 125 types of games in one, inspired by the world's most popular single-player card games, with classic solitaire gameplay. You play with a mouse click or a tap.

Platformers

  • Paper Ball Adventure Go: a hand-drawn single-player puzzle-platform adventure. Guide a paper ball through 12 levels where the rules keep changing, with gravity, colors, doors and shadows, and interact with words and objects to uncover hidden paths.
  • Frog Leap 3D: a single-player 3D obstacle-course platformer with 15 levels across three worlds: the Grove, the Deep Forest and the Volcano. Find checkpoints, collect coins and reach the final platform without falling into the void. Move with W A S D or the arrow keys and jump with Space; on mobile there is a joystick and a jump button.
  • Crazy Snow Skier: Platformer: slide through icy slopes in 10 increasingly difficult levels, collect coins, upgrade your speed and buy hearts. Metal blocks and bats cost you a heart, and there are no signs or hints.
  • Chicken Ko: a 2D platformer where you collect bowls of grain and reach the red flag while avoiding enemies and spikes. The difficulty increases as you go, and W or the up arrow pressed twice gives a double jump.

Adventure

  • Dig to the Weirdest World: a single-player 3D mining expedition. Steer a drill underground, collect discoveries, sell your cargo and upgrade. There are 29 underground worlds, 25 quests and 261 discoveries, with a depth goal of 170,000 meters. Keyboard, mouse and touch work, and progress is saved.
  • Gloom:Gargoyle: a magical 1-player, third-person game and the first act of Gloom. It has three locations, and to progress you go through two dungeons and find divine artifacts, using a fiery aura, an aura of time and an aura of magic.
  • Coin Hunters Odyssey: collect nine coins in each of 13 levels and pull the lever to open the door to the next room. Mazes, locked doors and hidden traps are in the way.
  • Hide Heist: a single-player stealth game where you control two characters: the smart one opens locks and hacks systems, and the strong one takes down guards and breaks through obstacles. Sneak into offices and banks and escape undetected.

Strategy

  • Citadel: Fortress Defense: a 3D medieval strategy game in first person. Each day you build walls, gates, houses, farms and more, then a raid comes, and every fifth day a boss arrives. It is single player endless survival, and the game ends if the town hall falls.
  • Hot Barrel Cats: a cat defense game with 16 hand-tuned levels, single player. Cats on a wall shoot at a fungus horde and heat up with every shot, so you drag hot cats down to cool off and drop two matching cats together to merge them into a stronger one.
  • Claritas Dungeon Crawler RPG DEMO: a 2D turn-based dungeon crawler that focuses purely on strategy, with no story or plot. Build a party from a roster of heroes with four abilities each and combine their skills.

Tips for playing alone

  • Read the controls before the first level. Frog Leap 3D uses W A S D plus Space, and Claritas uses the arrow keys with Z to confirm and X to cancel.
  • Check how a game keeps your progress. Screw Nuts Snap Puzzle saves it in the current browser and Dig to the Weirdest World has saved progress, so come back in the same browser.
  • Pick by session length. Paper Ball Adventure Go and Coin Hunters Odyssey are played level by level, with 12 and 13 levels, while Citadel: Fortress Defense is endless survival.
  • Games to play when bored sorts more picks by the time you have.
