Reaction Time Games: Reflex Tests and Quick Tap Games
Updated
Reaction time games ask you to respond the moment something happens: a target vanishes, a gap opens, a color changes. The games below test your reflexes and ask for quick reactions, and this guide makes no promise that playing them changes your reaction time. Each one is described from its own page.
What reaction time means in a game
Reaction time is the time between a signal and your response. Wikipedia defines it as the elapsed time between stimulus onset and an individual's response. It says simple reaction times are usually on the order of 200 milliseconds, and that they lengthen as the number of possible responses grows. That is why a game with one target feels different from one with three shapes to choose from. If you compare scores, use the same device each time.
Tap it before it vanishes
One signal, one tap: the target appears, and you have a moment to hit it. Reflex Grid asks you to tap glowing tiles before they vanish. Tapping a dark tile costs a life, a timer bar turns yellow and then red as tiles near expiry, and chained hits build combos. In Tap React Plus you keep a red square alive by tapping it before it shrinks away, hit yellow squares for bonus points and avoid the blue ones, which end your run at once.
GasSpark asks you to tap every barrel before it overheats and explodes, and a missed tap can set off a chain reaction. Click_Crates is a 3D game of tapping crates before they disappear, with Easy, Normal and Hard levels. Whack a Mole Pixel Version is whack-a-mole in retro pixel style: tap the moles before they hide again, mind the bombs that take points away, and score as much as you can in the time limit.
Match, switch and avoid
Here you react to what is coming and answer with the right color or shape. Shape Switch runs forward by itself while you tap to switch between cube, circle and triangle to match each gate, and one wrong switch ends the run. In Spin Color you watch a ball bounce and time your tap to spin the color wheel so its slice matches the ball. Three Points has you rotate a glowing triangle by 120 degrees with each tap, to match the color of every falling ball before it hits the ring. Bonus orbs give a time extension, a shield or a score multiplier.
Balls Vs Lasers puts two balls against incoming lasers, and you place each ball against the laser of the same color. Skulls And Bombs is a pirate game in which you click items for points but never click the skulls or bombs: one wrong tap ends the game, and it speeds up as you go.

Jump and dodge on cue
Jump Hero sends a ninja leaping between ledges in a futuristic dojo: tap or click to jump, time it to land on the next ledge, and the game gets faster as you progress. Halo Run puts you on a circular track where you leap over incoming obstacles. The speed rises, the obstacles bunch closer together and one mistake ends the run. Dummy Speed Bridger asks you to dash forward as bridges snap into place under your feet and vanish just as fast, and its description names reaction speed, memory and nerves.
Slime Rain is a dodger: avoid the falling objects and collect coins, with keyboard, slide or touch controls. Pumpkin Jump is a single-touch jumping reaction game: tap to jump, up to three times before you touch the ground again, and avoid the obstacles.
For games where one mistake ends the run, see hard games.
A window of one second
Some games give you a fixed, short window. In Crazy Fast Food Crash six kinds of fast food fly up the screen, and once an item reaches the plate level you have 1 second to drag and throw it onto the matching plate. The pace rises as you go. Find the Intruder asks you to spot the odd emoji out in less than a second and click it to delete it. RequiemNoire is a reflex game in which you press the right arrow keys before time runs out, to restore your timer and escape a deadly blade.
Head to head
Two Player Red Hands Game is a clapping game for two, and its description files it under funny reaction games that test reflexes and speed. Shoot or Die 2 is a western duel in the style of Mexican standoffs and spaghetti westerns: you need nerves of steel and have to be as fast as you can.

More games for two are in 2 player games.
How to use these games
- Look at the penalty before you play fast. In Reflex Grid a dark tile costs a life, and in Skulls And Bombs one wrong tap ends the game.
- Watch the whole screen. Reflex Grid's timer bar turns yellow and then red as tiles get close to expiring.
- Try one-target games first. Reflex Grid and Tap React Plus ask for a tap, while Shape Switch and Three Points add a choice.
- Compare runs on one device. A phone and a mouse feel different, so use the same setup when you compare scores.

Reaction time games FAQ
What games test reaction time?
Games where the next move depends on a signal: tap a target before it vanishes, switch shape or color on cue, jump or dodge an obstacle, or win a duel. The games above describe themselves that way.
Do reaction time games improve reaction time?
This guide does not claim that. The games test reflexes and ask for quick reactions; they are listed here for that, not as training.
How can I compare my reaction time in a game?
Pick a game with fixed rules, such as Reflex Grid, and compare your scores between runs on the same device. A score shows how you did in that game, not a lab measurement.
Can I play reaction games on a phone?
Yes. Reflex Grid, Tap React Plus, Shape Switch and Spin Color list tap controls, and the site works in the browser of a phone, a tablet and a computer.
Pick one signal you like reacting to, and start there.
