Games Like Where's My Water: Dig and Draw to Guide Water
Updated
Games like Where's My Water are physics puzzles where you steer water to a goal by digging through dirt, drawing a channel or clearing what blocks the way. Where's My Water? is a 2011 puzzle game by Creature Feep, published by Disney Mobile. The games below are original browser puzzles by independent studios that ask for the same moves: dig, draw, pull a pin or turn a pipe, then watch the liquid run.
How Where's My Water plays
In Where's My Water? you use the touch screen to dig through dirt and steer water toward an inlet that leads to a bathtub. A level is won when the required amount of water arrives, and lost if all the water drains away or turns into poison or mud (source).
The water has hazards. Algae absorbs water and grows, a single drop of purple poison contaminates pure water, mud hardens into dirt unless water reaches it, and green ooze erodes dirt. You can also collect three rubber ducks once they have absorbed enough water.
So the game is reading how the liquid will move and deciding what to remove. This table shows where the games below ask for the same.
| What you do in Where's My Water | Games that ask the same |
|---|---|
| Dig through dirt to open a path | Put Out The Fire, Dig It, The Route Digger |
| Draw or swipe a path for the flow | Fill The Water, Fill The Glass With Juice, Neon Painter, Ant Flow |
| Remove a pin or a stick so the water can flow | Amazing Color Flow, Pin Pull 3d Game, Colored Water and Pin |
| Turn pipes into a route | Pipe Out Game, Water Flow Puzzle Game, Connecting Pipes 3D |
| Work with how water behaves | Clever Crow |
Dig to open the way
Digging is the main move in Where's My Water, so these come first.
- Put Out The Fire is the closest. You bring water to burning plants with a pickaxe: you click to dig and guide the water. It has more than 10 levels and 2D particle graphics.
- Dig It has you dig a hole with your fingers and guide a ball to its destination. It moves a ball instead of water, but you still dig your way to the goal.
- The Route Digger sends a ball into a tunnel across 20 levels. You click and drag to remove the sand in the way.
Draw or swipe a path for the flow
Here you lay down the route first, then let the liquid run.
- Fill The Water asks you to fill an empty tank by drawing lines that send the water the right way. You drag the left mouse button to draw. There is more than enough water for the required amount, but if you spill too much you retry the level. It has 20 levels.
- Fill The Glass With Juice is built on fluid physics. You swipe to draw a channel for orange juice, release, and the juice flows along it. Your goal is to fill the glass to the required level, and new obstacles arrive as the levels get harder.
- Neon Painter is a neon puzzle with 300+ levels of different shapes. You swipe with the mouse or your finger to move neon water through an object and complete it.
- Ant Flow moves ants instead of water. You sketch lines with your finger to build a path that guides the ants to their food and back to the nest, past obstacles.
More line-drawing puzzles are in drawing games online, and physics games online adds stacking, rolling and smashing.
Pull a pin or remove a stick
Nothing is dug or drawn in these. The liquid is already there, and a pin or a stick holds it back, so you choose what to free and in what order.
- Amazing Color Flow has you tap the golden stick to remove it, so the water flows into an empty tank. It has 20 levels.
- Pin Pull 3d Game gives you a pool to fill. You remove the obstacles that block the flow of liquid so the water runs into the matching pool, and sometimes you move obstacles back and forth to separate the liquid.
- Colored Water and Pin asks you to pull out pins to help colorful water into the flasks that approach. You play with a mouse click or a tap.
Turn the pipes
In these the route is made of pieces, and the water only runs once the line is complete.
- Pipe Out Game has you rotate and arrange pipe pieces to keep the water moving from the start to the destination. The mouse does everything.
- Water Flow Puzzle Game is a pipe-connection puzzle with rotatable pipes and cartoon green plants. You turn the pipes to make a path for water that rescues the plant, and no level has a time limit.
- Connecting Pipes 3D is about thirsty flowers. You click the pipes to connect them so that water reaches the flowers.
When the water has its own physics
Clever Crow turns the problem around. A thirsty crow must raise the water in a long-necked jar, so you aim and fling pebbles into it and the water rises by displacement. Big stones do not fit the narrow neck, ice floats and melts, cork barely helps and a sponge soaks up your water. A crosswind blows on later stages, and beating par earns 3 stars across its 8 levels. You drag from the crow and release.
Tips for water puzzles
- Watch the flow before the second try. In Fill The Glass With Juice the juice follows the channel as soon as you release.
- Count what you can spill. Fill The Water gives you more water than you need, but spilling too much means a retry.
- Think about what each pull frees. Pin Pull 3d Game may ask you to move obstacles back and forth to separate the liquid.
- Keep the water away from hazards. In the original, algae absorbs water and a single drop of poison contaminates it.
