Brain Games Online: Logic, Sliding, Sorting and Physics Puzzles

Updated

Brain games online are puzzles where planning matters more than speed: slide blocks in the right order, sort colors onto shelves, untangle rings, draw a line and let gravity finish the job, or out-think a thief on a hex grid. Below are the main kinds, how each one works, and games from the brain games collection to try. Sudoku, 2048, memory and math games have guides of their own, linked at the end.

Sliding and order puzzles

The classic of this kind is the 15 puzzle: 15 numbered tiles in a frame four tiles wide and four high, with one empty space, and the goal of putting the tiles in numerical order. Wikipedia's article on the 15 puzzle notes that half of all starting positions are impossible to solve, no matter how many moves are made.

  • Sliding Puzzle plays it on 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 grids. Click a tile next to the empty space to slide it in.
  • UNRAVEL fills the board with blocks that each carry an arrow. Tap a block and it slides that way until it leaves the board or hits another block. Clear the board before your moves run out; tap in the wrong order and the board locks. There are 100 levels in ten chapters, each one checked to be solvable.
  • CORE RUSH slides a rover through 48 rooms. It keeps going until something stops it, so you plan a route that collects every core. Z undoes a move.
  • Dead End Depot is a warehouse puzzle: push each parcel to the gate with the matching color and symbol, but never pull. Moving the wrong parcel first can block the whole warehouse, across 60 stages.
  • Arrower moves yellow arrows the way they point until all of them reach the yellow box.
  • Snake Way guides colored snakes off the board, past obstacles, with each move planned ahead.

How to solve order puzzles

  1. Find the one piece that can move freely now, and the one that everything else is waiting on. The solution runs between them.
  2. Work backwards from the exit. In Dead End Depot, ask which parcel has to leave last, and keep its path clear.
  3. Use undo instead of restarting. CORE RUSH and Dead End Depot both undo a move with Z.

Logic and strategy puzzles

  • Museum Night Shift is a turn-based chase on a hex grid. You are the guard: move one hex at a time, block escape routes and step on switches to open or close security gates, and catch the thief before the emerald is gone. There are 50 nights and no timer.
  • StickyConnect is a strategy game inspired by Go: connect and take areas of the board while blocking your opponent.
  • Logic Vault cycles through seven kinds of question: numeric sequences, deduction scenarios, simple matching, symbol count, odd one out, quick arithmetic and character frequency.
  • Elemental Challenge combines elemental pieces into complete elements with the arrow keys. One wrong move can leave you stuck.

Sorting and untangling puzzles

  • Goods Master tidies store shelves. Drag jars, bottles and boxes until each shelf holds one matching set, with a limited number of moves per level.
  • Block Sort: Colormania stacks blocks so each pile holds one color.
  • Car Sort sends cars from garages onto a road to match garages of the same color, while keeping the road from filling up.
  • Category Match Puzzle sorts picture tiles into categories such as toys, food and weather.
  • Open Rings has you turn faceted rings and pull sliding bars to slip each piece off the board without a collision, over 384 levels.
  • Bendy Circle untangles rubber bands wound around each other.

Physics, light and drawing puzzles

  • Bump the Balls asks you to draw one line, then lets gravity move two balls along it; get them to meet, across 100 levels, with a hint when you are stuck.
  • Fill The Glass With Juice draws channels for orange juice to flow along until the glass is full.
  • Spatial Inverse: Gravity Puzzle Adventure places blocks, bounce pads and portals on a grid, then sets glowing marbles rolling under changing gravity. There are 15 levels in 3 worlds; Space starts and stops the run.
  • Laser Reflection drags cubes so that a laser hits every white dot, over 50 levels.
  • Lights connects every wire to the power source to light all the bulbs as fast as you can.

Shape, number and picture puzzles

  • Block Triangle fills designs with pieces made of triangles, and the pieces cannot be rotated.
  • Tangram Grid Game turns shapes until together they fill a target outline.
  • Hexa Tiles Puzzle Game places hex pieces on a hex board and clears full lines; the game ends when no piece fits.
  • Impossible 10 merges two or more neighboring blocks with the same number, aiming for a 10.
  • Difference Find Master Game compares two nearly identical pictures and asks you to find every change before time runs out.
  • Ultimate Trivia Quiz asks multiple-choice and true-or-false questions; the aim is to get through without more than three mistakes.
